| Double Windows Vista Speed! |
|
Windows Vista offers a tool to increase the loading speed of the applications, called SuperFetch Prefetching. This tool monitors the programs that run during Windows startup. SuperFetch is a new technology able to determine Windows Vista applications that were previously used to load them into the memory and improve the system response in the start or when changing the user profile. SuperFetch uses an intelligent prioritization scheme which determines the applications used most frequently; being able to identify in what moment were used (weekends, etc). As a result, the computer will respond according to the user preferences. This tool is useful to enhance the performance of the system startup, especially on computers with 512 Mbytes of RAM and up. The Prefetching and SuperFetch has a value 3 (standard), suitable for all machines with a minimum of 512 RAM. To optimize the performance on machines with higher RAM we have to modify the Windows registry. Go to the Start menu, Run (winkey + R) and type regedit. Once inside the registry locate the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters Increase the values 3 to 5 as shown below EnableSuperfetch 5 This change will reduce Windows start time and can almost double Windows Vista performance.
